Kingdom Culture

In Mark 9:30–50, Jesus teaches His disciples about the upside-down nature of His kingdom. While they argue about who is the greatest, Jesus redefines greatness as humility, service, and putting others first. He places a child before them as an example, showing that true kingdom greatness comes from receiving the lowly and serving the least.

He goes on to warn them not to cause others to stumble and to take sin seriously, even if it means cutting off anything that leads them away from God. He also calls them to be “salted with fire,” purified and preserved by His refining presence, and to live at peace with one another.

This passage reveals that the culture of Jesus’ kingdom is radically different from the culture of the world. It’s not about status, pride, or competition — it’s about humility, holiness, and harmony. We are called to embody this kingdom culture in our daily lives as we follow Jesus.
