The Suffering of One, the Rejoicing of All

In this final message of our series Longing for the Savior: A Study in the Psalms, we turn to Psalm 22, a psalm that powerfully foreshadows the suffering of Christ. David begins with the haunting cry, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”—words later spoken by Jesus on the cross. This psalm captures the depth of human anguish, isolation, and pain, yet it also points forward to hope, deliverance, and victory.

Psalm 22 moves from despair to praise, reminding us that the suffering of the One brings salvation and rejoicing for all. Through Christ’s sacrifice, what began in anguish ends in a declaration of God’s faithfulness and glory to the nations.

This message calls us to see both the cost and the triumph of the cross, and to rejoice that because of Jesus’ suffering, we now share in the joy of salvation and the promise of eternal life.
