“From Distress to Gospel Witness” | Acts 17:16-34
Recap
In Acts 17, we see Paul deeply distressed by a city full of idols because the worship belonging to God is being given to substitutes. His example challenges us to examine both what troubles us about our world and what receives our own allegiance. Rather than withdrawing or responding with contempt, we are called to move toward people with the good news of Jesus. We learn to understand others by asking questions and listening, to speak in language they can understand, and to find common ground from which we can point them toward the living God. At the same time, we must speak faithfully about repentance, judgment, and Jesus’ resurrection. The God who gives us life has made a way for us to be reconciled to him through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. As we share this news, we can trust God with the results, remaining faithful whether people respond with ridicule, curiosity, or belief.
